Learn To Install Solar Photovoltaics in the NAACP Hybrid Training Program




Recognizing the industry’s demand for qualified solar installers, the LaPorte County and Gary branches of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People along with WorkOne will host a hands-on solar panel training and certification workshop kick-off event at the WorkOne Offices in Gary and Michigan City July 19th- 20th, 2021.


Northwest Indiana, July 17th, 2021- According to the Wages, Benefits, and Change Supplemental Report from the Annual U.S Energy and Employment Report major fuel sources and transformations in energy technology are creating new energy jobs across the country in geographic concentration. The BLS Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics Occupational Outlook Manual shows that the predicted percentage of solar industry employment change from 2019 to 2029 is 51%, which is much higher than the average. The manual also disclosed that during the pandemic, the median annual salary of solar photovoltaic installers was $41,950.


Anticipating the plans for Northwest Indiana’s energy transition in Jasper County and Michigan City, NAACP and WorkOne NWI will host a PV installer certification training course kickoff. The start-up activities of the Soul Power Project training course will include Q&A introductions and information meetings with NAACP, the formation of partnerships between professional consultants and participants, training preparation activities, and registration and evaluation.


Those interested in this Indiana state-approved program can attend the Gary Kickoff Event on July 19th from 1-4 pm at Gary WorkOne Office located at 504 Broadway on the 4th Floor in Centier Bank building or the Michigan City Kickoff Event on Tuesday, July 20th from 1-4 pm at Michigan City WorkOne Office located at 301 E 8th St Suite 120.

  • Roof structure

  • Electrical basics training including:

  • Electricity fundamentals

  • Conduit bending

  • Array installation

  • Solar Safety and Fall Protection and OSHA-10 Certification
